As a parent, one of your primary responsibilities is to protect your children from harm. One of the greatest threats to your children’s safety is child abuse.

Child abusers can be anyone; including family members, friends, teachers, coaches, or even strangers. To protect your children from abusers, it’s important to be aware of warning signs and to have open communication with your children.

Talk to your children about what abuse is and teach them that it is never their fault. Encourage them to speak up if they ever feel uncomfortable or if someone touches them inappropriately.

Establish boundaries with your children and teach them to respect others’ boundaries as well. Monitor their online activity and be cautious when allowing them to use social media or messaging apps.

It’s also important to trust your instincts. Well-meaning or not, people have a tendency to try to persuade parents to resist listening to their instincts.

But, if something feels off or you suspect that someone may be abusing your child, don’t hesitate to report it to the authorities or seek help from a professional.

Protecting your children from abusers is a serious matter and should always be taken seriously.
