Dr. Angella Dorothea Ferguson, an American pediatrician, noticed the high rate of sickle cell disease among Black American children she dedicated her life to studying the disease.
She went on to develop a blood test that can detect the disease at birth. This test has become the standard in most U.S. states. In addition to testing, Dr. Ferguson made recommendations that may aid disease management.
Dr. Ferguson is both a graduate and a post-medical school graduate researcher at Howard University.
